What can this be? – Revealing the answer

Yesterday I cooked the pumpkin pie. That gave me the idea to take close up pictures inside the pumpkin for Macro Monday Challenge. I published in the previous post two of these photos and I challenged you to guess what it is. Everyone who commented assumed it was a fruit. The complete answer was given by Dawn who guessed it is  pumpkin. Congratulations, Dawn and thank you to everyone who tried to guess!

This reminded me of an event that happened many years ago when I won a bet giving the correct answer to a question: Is the pumpkin fruit or vegetable?

Pumpkin is among the richest vegetables/fruits  in vitamin A : 100 grams contain almost twice and half the recommended daily dose of vitamin A. In large quantities there is also potassium and beta-carotene, which gives the pumpkin the specific orange color. Pumpkin is recommended by nutritionists to people undergoing weight loss, because of the very small number of calories it contains. It is also a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids and does not contain saturated fat or cholesterol. Pumpkin seeds are rich in phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, zinc and vitamin K.
