I posted the buds of my Tiger Lilies a few days ago. The blooms are finally here. These are the first blooms of the year. They are gorgeous. I love the burgundy and yellow color contrast. This means the butterflies will be here soon. I am excited about these blooms. As I said before, they are perennials, so they are very easy to grow. You cut them back when they finish blooming, they they return the next spring.
The tiger lily is considered native to China, Japan and Korea, though its true origins have not been discovered. I also learned this about the Tiger Lily. Even though many parts of the tiger lily are edible by people, the pollen is toxic, causing sleepiness and vomiting. Every part of this lily is poisonous to cats. Thank goodness my cats are indoor cats.

Beautiful flower, have something like this that grows up like a weed. We aren’t short of cats in the neighbourhood that ignore it. DOC regard this as a noxious pest in New Zealand. DOC is in agriculture and fisheries and are investigators of plants and animals in New Zealand
Isn’t that interesting! Love these big blooms.
Yes, I have, but this one is fabulous. Love that bright red!
This is my favorite color of all of the varieties.
For tiger lily colors I would have to say me too. This is the best. We have a lot of orange ones around here, they don’t even come close to as pretty.
I just love the contrast of the two colors. Cannot wait for the butterflies.
Great photograph! Tiger Lilies are my favorite I think…..so thank you for sharing 🙂
Thank you! Yes they are one of my favorites.
Wasn’t there a Native American princess named for this flower?
You are correct Alex. It was from the book Peter and Wendy.
My mannequin is named after Wendy Darling
Your mannequin??? Did I miss something?
I have a mannequin named Wendy. She used to model for me back when I did a lot of figure drawing and painting at 2AM
okee dokee, nuff said
This is gorgeous! I love lilies, but I didn’t know this one is called like that.
Yes Ellie and you need one! They are gorgeous and get so big. The butterflies will get halfway down into them for their pollen.
I love these lilies and have several similar in my garden. My cat has the good sense not to eat it 🙂
Good for you Norman, I just saw your garden… wow!! 🙂

It does reminds me of the “diamond” colour radiant…
