Love ItLove It

This is nearly what we saw yesterday!

On Sunday afternoon we were in the garden when we heard a light plane approaching. When we looked up we saw that it was towing a banner that read CHARLOTTE I (HEART) YOU. WILL YOU MARRY ME?

This got us thinking. We don’t know anyone who lives locally who is named Charlotte, so the first reaction was to hope that the pilot had targeted the right village! My wife pondered the possibility that Charlotte might actually be sitting on the loo at the time and thus not in a position to read any aerial banners. My hope was that Charlotte lived on the right side of where the banner was flying, otherwise she might be a bit puzzled by seeing a message in mirror writing flying overhead.

And then there was our son – ever the romantic – who hoped that another plane would fly past before long with a banner that just said NO.

  1. The grand romantic gesture is always interesting. As you move along in life, you look at some and say I could have done that. You look at others, such as the one you’ve shared and you think, nah not for me.

But the thing about gestures is there is always those who love them! The grand gesture sometimes is exactly what is called for!

    • Proposals in public are the really embarrassing ones – especially at big events covered by national television! How can the girl ever say no? I sometimes wonder how long the subsequent marriage lasts!

      • well the divorce rate hovers around 50% so your question wouldn’t be too hard to answer.
The explosion of reality TV shows, Batchelor and Bachelorette make me laugh for that very reason!!!!

  2. That’s lovely and romantic, but I would think it’s better to spend the money more wisely. I am not a romantic person. 😛

    • I don’t suppose that the pilot was the suitor in question – these people tow banners for a fee! But you’re right – there’s no point if the intended isn`t watching, and – if she is – she`s quite likely to know what`s about to happen anyway!
