Tech Wiz talking Keyboards…

Keyboards are interesting; we used to, back in the day have typewriter keyboards. Now we are moving more and more towards the chicklet type keyboards. A chicklet keyboard has keys that are smaller and shaped more like chicklets. Small thin squares. Keyboards are also wireless now. The reality of the wireless keyboard is roughly 9 or more years old. Some of the keyboards on the market from Logitech are designed now for specific purposes or functions.  From gaming keyboards to those designed to be used further away from the computer. I love keyboards. I have a couple more than I need, but that is in part because I hate the keyboard switches. I used to have one in my office, but it wasn’t effective.

Funny how things change but stay the same. Keyboards are personal choice devices. By that, I mean what and how you use them defines not the keyboard but you. I used to hate the chicklet keyboards, and for a couple of years, I replaced all of them when I got them. Now, because most laptops have them, I have gotten used to them. It is about typing speed in the end for me. If I can type 60 or 80 WPM, then the keyboard works. USB keyboards are painful as well because of the limit of the length of the USB cable. Wireless have moments, sometimes you et the fake key sticking problem. That is where the WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW prints across your screen even though you only pressed it one time.

St keyboard for me right now is the iPad Pro keyboard. It has the best layout of keys. I don’t have big hands so being able to use the smaller keyboard is perfect. I do also love the feel of the iPad pro keyboard. The next best keyboard for me is the surface studio keyboard (I do most of my blogs on that keyboard. Funny but I don’t like the numeric keypad on the surface keyboard. I like the one on the surface laptops, but not the keyboard. I do like that both the iPad Pro and the Surface Studio keyboards are small, light and easily fit on your lap. Some of the bigger USB and Logitech keyboards don’t fit on your lap easily. You end up balancing the keyboard. That means if you lean too far, the keyboard crashes to the ground.

Keyboards are an interesting technology, as voice command continues to improve, they become less and less critical! But the right keyboard can make all the difference.
