Every year until his passing Jim Neighbors (most famous for his role Gomer Pyle USMC) would come to the Indianapolis 500 and sing “back home again in Indiana.”

this song is one of those songs that I wish I had his voice to sing. His basso Profundo voice makes this song so much more magical than it would be otherwise.
It also started the 500-mile race and without a doubt remains one of my highlights. The song was written by Eddy Arnold and performed by many singers, but no one like this!
Back home again in Indiana,And it seems that I can seeThe gleaming candle light, still burning bright,Through the Sycamores for me.The new-mown hay sends all its fragnanceThrough the fields I used to roam. When I dream about the moonlight on the WabashThen I long for my Indiana home.[ piano ](When I dream about the moonlight on the WabashThen I long for my Indiana home sweet home)
Back home again in Indiana…(Indiana Indiana Indiana home)

I never listened much to Jim Nabors singing but this song is truly heartwarming and beautiful. I don’t know if you could really call the song iconic but I love how it all comes together with Elvis’ singing. The song is Kentucky Rain.
i have heard Kentucky Rain many times, it is one of his better covers. But then Elvis could convey so much emotion with his voice.
A beautiful song. I hear it for the first time. I only watch races on TV.
i used to go to the 500 when I could, sometimes just to hear Jim Neighbors sing that song!
I was blown away the first time I heard him sing. I could not believe it.
Another iconic voice is Mike Rowe. I love his Dirty Jobs shows he had but his voice, wow!

he actually sang once on fallon or one of the late night shows I couldn’t believe it either!
