Woodpeckers are small and medium-sized birds.
They have a very lively and contrasting feather color. In our country live 8 species of hammers. The most common is the garden woodpecker(Dendrocopos syriacus). It is so called because it is characteristic of orchards, parks and gardens.
It is a sedentary bird, meaning it stays here all year. Males and females are not very different. In general, the feathering of this bird is a combination of white, black and red, except that in the male there is also a red spot on the back of the head.
I have taken these pictures in Chindia Park!

Same here, but lately their number has decreased.
There were many woodpeckers to be heard in the cemeteries in Latvia. It was a lonely sound standing by a grave and hearing up above the peck, peck, peck, that echoed into the surrounding forest
Most of the time, first I hear them and then I see them!
We have these birds here. It is a cute bird.
It is cute, indeed. It likes to drum all day long !
I don’t remember seeing this bird before. We have the most sparrows in our country.
As I know it is a resident bird from southeastern Europe, but maybe I’m wrong.
Yes, woodpeckers are common here.
Same here, but lately their number has decreased.
Nice shot. I love woodpeckers. The only ones I have seen are the Downy and the red bellied.
Thank you! I often see them in the park but I hardly manage to photograph them because they stand on top of the trees!
