I saw this young River kingfisher close to the walkway in the park. I guess he must have just about learned to fly. This little fellow was way too close and I had my lens for long shots fitted on. I was worried that he might fly away if I moved as much to get the other lens out of my bag and fix it. So I went ahead with the shot from below. I am sad that you cannot see the brilliant blue of his feathers which are contrasted with the deep rich coffee brown in the middle of his wings.
He did fly away when he realized that he was within my arms length. However by then I had got a decent couple of shots. If you would like to read more about the river kingfisher check this link blow.

really nice and beautiful bird.
Nice shot, never seen one.
Hmm.. Maybe some distant cousins of his may be living there, others of his species.
He really looks like a king up on the tree!
Doesn’t he? even though he is just a fledgling.
Great picture, dear friend
Thank you Lado for your encouraging comments.

Nice photo of this little bird. Beautiful bird.
Thank you Milica. He is indeed a fascinating bird.
It’s a beautiful bird. It doesn’t live in my area!
I think these are common in the Australasian regions.
This guy is quite common here
Do you live near a water body?
Not really but he targets our bird bath. He does not stay there but just comes and rushes back perhaps to see if there is fish in there.
Oh okay, Maybe he comes looking for guppies and mollies. 😀 in your bird bath.
I think so too. A good guess Dawn (lol)
