The very first post I made on Virily more than a year ago now, was on boat safety equipment. The first two Virily posts I made were on the topic of boat safety. I was still contributing to Niume even though Niume was no longer paying. Shortly after my first couple of Virily posts, Niume announced it was going to shut down. It was a tough time overall. Virily has issues of its own, as almost all websites do, but overall the people on the site are amazing. Yes, there are people that don’t always do the right thing. But that isn’t my problem. People that are willing to cut corners and things like that are an issue that virtually every community site I’ve ever dealt with has had. Honestly, I am hoping Virily sticks around for another year (and beyond)!
The reason for boater safety as my first post is that it is a topic I am always interested in. The first part of the puzzle is can you safely leave your boat. The other is do you have the tools to be ok when you leave the boat. Finally, do you have tools that allow you to be found (GPS season and so on)? The thing that makes me sad is that the best possible life-saving device, which isn’t technology but it is a critical device to have, is a life jacket. The USGS published a study a few years ago, talking about the reality of life jackets. The vast majority of drownings occur because no one wears life jackets. They are mandatory on our boat, regardless of who is getting on the boat (even my mother wears a life jacket!).
Safety is 50 % planning and 50% execution.
Anyway, 1500 posts on Virily. I am amazed sometimes by the number of posts. I make 2-3 a day, and only take off 2 to 4 days a year. That makes I generate around 1000 posts a year. I write every day because that is how I was taught. To get your thoughts and ideas out of your head and into the world. I have a dear friend that post about once a month. Each of this post is measured, perfect and delightful. Some of my posts are neither measured and not delightful often. It is just part of me.
Thanks, to everyone that reads! I appreciate all my readers!!!!!

Real safety lies in controlling the danger
A short story I sold many years ago was about a person trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Not the phrase, actually trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Needless to say, the result was the point of the story.
Sounds like they were really trying to catch a Darwin Award…
Well in fairness I didn’t start the story with “Hey y’all looks at this.”
“Hold my beer” said Cleatus to his grandmother who was also his sister…
Good for you and your #1500 Doc. I hope we all have many more on this site as well.
I hope so as well Carol! I feel like the platform is a lot more stable now than it has been, but now the admins are even more reluctant to interact with the users.
Congrats on the 1500 posts, that’s a great achievement!
I wanted to apologize to you. I didn’t stop reading your posts, I just always ran out of time. I miss the desert pictures 🙂
