My daily picture – Penumbral lunar eclipse

This night is the first lunar eclipse from 2020 visible in Romania. It can be seen throughout the unfolding. An eclipse of the moon can only happen at full moon, when the sun, Earth and moon line up in space, with Earth in the middle. The eclipse of this evening is the penumbral eclipse. The moon will not enter the shadow of the earth at all, but only the Earth penumbra will fall on the moon’s face. Because the penumbra  is not very dark, we can only see a reduction in the brightness of the Moon. I took the picture a few minutes before. The eclipse is underway at this time. The maximum phase of the eclipse will be over approximately 30 minutes, when almost the entire disk of the Moon will be in Earth’s penumbra.
