Ljubljana Opera

The Ljubljana Opera House is an opera house located at the intersection of Zupancic Street and Cankar Street in Ljubljana. The building was built as a Regional Theater and today houses the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet Theater. The building was built between 1890 and 1892 in the neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Czech architects Jan Vladimír Hráský and Anton Hruby. In the facade niches are statues that represent allegories of tragedy and comedy. It gives the building its distinctive appearance, above all, a richly decorated facade with ionic columns above the entrance supporting a mighty tympanum. In the niches at the main entrance, statues of Comedy and Tragedy have been erected. Due to the dilapidation and spatial distress, a renovation and upgrading plan was planned in 1998, which, however, was delayed due to many complications. The grand opening of the renovated building was on December 10, 2011.
