Doing What I Love

I am used to a great deal of push back on the things I believe and I stand for. I set different standards for myself than I expect of others.  I often hear people call me an anomaly. They may be right.

My internet expert who takes care of our companies and servers was here this week for quite some time. He likes to see what it going on and if we still need the services we have and what needs to be tweaked. We had a very long conversation about this site.

He is very direct, much like I am, and said why are you wasting your time here? 

I love to write. I love to read and learn from others. I have met some lifelong friends on writing sites.

He said “So it’s a hobby that is consuming your time.”

“Yes”.

“Are there any of these sites where people actually read what you write and don’t just open it?”

“There are a few people who read. There are a few people who only read. People are here because they want to make some money.”

Then he said “The only way that will ever work is if you have a co-op of passionate people who are willing to work together, make an investment and keep it going. Let me give you an example. All websites count on traffic and advertisements. It’s a fact. Very few understand that a site should not even open until they have around 10,000 post that have no errors.”

  1. In the past 4 years several sites have attempted to recognize the value of their contributors and compensate people for their original content. This concept is relatively new on the internet… Facebook dreamed of getting millions of people to make money for itself. Tsu, Rabadaba, and now Virily have tried to share the wealth but this concept is still in its infancy and will take time. I’ll continue to write and cherish the fedback from the handful of people who actually read my stories. I’m learning to shrug off the ones who write things that make it clear they haven’t got past the picture and the title.
