Coconut and Palmyra palms are common here. However in the last 10-15 years we see a lot of trees with no heads. It is strange but it is happening. I asked the local farmers and they said it was a beetle that ate into the heart of the tree and killed it.
It is sad to see trees without their crowing glory. Dead trees are no good to the environment in fact they are dangerous to be let alone as they could fall on someone. Years ago one of my cousin’s in laws got killed when he was driving a pickup truck through his plantation. One such neglected, dead tree suddenly fell on him. It was a freak accident but it did cost him his life.
I wonder why people leave dead trees unattended to. I wonder if they think why waste more money on a dead tree? I am not sure But this is irresponsible to say the least.
I took this picture while on a road trip last year.

You’re right, it’s sad to see headless and dead trees. Perhaps they should treat the trees against the beetles but I think that’s a lot of work.
We have dead trees too. But here they remove all dead trees.
This is happening to us too, although I have been lately cleaning and tearing down sick trees
The expense of cutting down trees is much less than the impact if trees fall uncontrolled. It seems there is a short-sighted belief that it is ok to leave dead trees.
sad i love palm trees.
It will definitely effect the enviroment and climate change
I am so sorry for your cousin in law
Cutting down dead trees proves every expensive here.
I thought as much, but It is dangerous to leave them alone.
Then the government should step in
Our trees are not like that, however whole forests have been killed here by the a worm.
Oh my goodness, whole forests eaten by worms, that is disastrous.
I have never seen headless palm trees before. It’s a pity that something preventable like that can cost someone’s life.
It is indeed a pity, he was a young man in his mid thirties.
Things like that happen here too. My friend has laughed at me because I didn’t want to sit near a tree that was making noices during the wind. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
