Being in Hurghada this November, we decided to visit Luxor. I had read a lot about Egypt history and longtime already wanted to visit Luxor and see the most famous sights there. There can be found a big part of Egypt’s historical places in Luxor. The trip from our hotel in Hurghada took all day as we visited not only the biggest temple in the world – Karnak temple but also Memnon Colossi, the great temple of Hatshepsut (the fifth Egypt Pharaoh) that stays unfinished to build to these days, and The Valley of the Kings. Unfortunately, there is forbidden making photographies in the Valley of the King, so I can’t add any – everything stayed in my memory only.
Ancient Egyptian city, Thebes, was once in the place of Luxor. Arabic “al Uqsur” means “palace”. This name came to the city when the Arabs arrived here and saw the legacy of Ancient Egypt. Luxor is considered to be the second most visited place of Egypt after famous Giza pyramids. It’s like a huge open-air museum. Of the 12 most famous historic monuments that recall pharaohs times, in Luxor are even 8.
I must say, the Luxor’s historical monuments left for me bigger impression than pyramids of Giza.
