Altamont Gardens in Carlow, Ireland, is a vast 40-acre site open to the public, combining formal garden with wild woodland and river valley. The lake pictured here was dug out by hand in the mid-1800s to provide work for people during the potato famine, which took about a million lives. (It would have been unthinkable back then, to simply give free food to starving people, without demanding work in return).
Of the two shots here, I don’t know which I prefer. Could I ask you please only to upvote whichever one you think best? Thanks 🙂
