Sky Sunday - Arataki Visitor Centre

Welcome to Arataki Visitor Centre.!

Not a cloud in the sky today, and it only reached 20 degrees, we are almost in summer here in Auckland , New Zealand.

This is where I like to take visitors to Auckland, right here in the heart of the Waitakere Ranges.

A Maori representation of their family on the pole and a building with information about the Waitakere ranges. That is on the thumbnail.

From the right a kiosk selling Danish ice creams... and there is a picture frame where you can take a picture of the view.

You get a different view from the side.

You walk around the path ..

#4 View of the Nihotapu Dam from the Arataki Visitor centre

You look a long way across to the Nihotapu Dam below and across to the huge expanse of the Manukau harbour.

You have a view of the Nihotapu Dam and the New Zealand bush.

Thanks Ileana, many tourist places in New Zealand have these empty frames for photography

the Maori did totem poles?

Maoris are like but not like American Indians. In this case, it is a statement about this particular Maori family, like a family tree.

However, mostly Maoris carve their ancestry on the walls of their Marae, and it does not really look like a totem pole…

Some Maoris learn their ancestry by mouth going back to the first canoe that arrived here with Kupe. Not all of them.

The Visitor Center is unique. I especially like the idea with the frame.

we did empty picture frames at my daughter’s wedding. It was one of the activity stations, take a picture for the bride and groom, holding an empty frame! awesome!!!!

Thanks Doc, these frames were put up for tourism and it works even for those who act like tourists in their own country.

I like this Arataki visitor centre. Are Danish icecreams good? I have not seen Danishicecreams in Spain

That frame concept is brilliant. For houses these days they do the same in that through the window frame one can see the landscape outside.
