Hirtshals Lighthouse was built in 1863 during the reign of Frederik VII (very popular and enlightened Danish monarch who refused from absolutism and loved to get news from people during his frequent travels around the country). The tower of lighthouse is decorated by the monogram of this king (you can see it just above the entrance door).

The power of the lighthouse shining increased with the flow of time. In 1914 it shined using kerosene. In 1939 the lighthouse was electrified. And in 1973 it was automated. Now the light of Hirtshals Lighthouse can be seen 25 nautical miles from land.

Tourists often visit Hirtshals Lighthouse. Nowadays art and nature exhibitions are often held there. By the way, you have a chance to see some of them right now. The first is named “Rylen og Jens Boh” (from 14 till 22 October 2017). It is dedicated to the works of Danish artists.  The second – Stone exhibition at Hirtshals Lighthouse (till 30 December 2017) – shows the dune’s “gifts”.

Let’s wish the lighthouse the further prosperity and successful lightning!
