Every Dubliner knows: Hop on the 44 bus, stay on until the terminus at Enniskerry, walk up the hill, and there you have it laid out in front of you. Powerscourt Estate, one of the most majestic gardens you will ever clap eyes on, in a perfect setting nestled among the Wicklow Mountains.
Built on the site of a 13th century castle, the grounds date largely from the 1730s, when they were designed with the desire to create a garden which was part of the wider surrounding landscape. Powerscourt Gardens include The Walled Gardens, The Italian Garden, The Dolphin Pond, The Japanese Gardens and the Pepperpot Tower.
Powerscourt Gardens have been voted No.3 in the World’s Top Ten Gardens by National Geographic Magazine. The Gardens cover some 47 acres and offer visitors a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, statues and ornamental lakes, secret hollows and rambling walks.
