It’s been a long time since we had rain here on the Emerald Isle, and this is something we just aren’t used to. While the drought has turned lawns into coir mats, and frazzled many delicate plants, the prolonged heat has had a beneficial effect on some plants in my garden, and those are the ones I’ll highlight in this series of photos I shot over the last few days. Please let me know what you think, and vote up your favourites!
If you like my garden, take a look at my wife’s YouTube channel – she has over 12,000 subscribers so she must be doing something right!

Cynara cardunculus or cardoon is closely related to the globe artichoke. However, unlike its sister, it's the leaves and stems that you eat, rather than the flower. That said, it is one of the most incredibly bitter vegetables I've ever tried to eat. 'Tried' being the operative word. But I do like its look!
This is a Great to see.
All these flowers are charming, my favorites are № 1, 2 ,3, 6, 8, 10 (voted for them)!!!
Thank you so much, Tatjana! You are very encouraging 🙂
Lovely flowers. The pokeberry with all the purple and green is amazing.
Yes! I find that combination so striking too. Many thanks 🙂
Beautiful photos. The more I see of the different flowers, the more interested I get.
Thank you very much, Gary. I’m glad you enjoyed the pics 🙂
Incredible blooms Norman, I love each one of them. Sorry about the drought. I know that can damage a garden.
Thanks a lot, Carol! We are not the only place suffering from extreme weather, and of course there are many places where the results are much more serious, so I know it’s important to keep perspective 🙂
Really beautiful flowers. Thanks for the post.
