Eric Hailey is being a called a hero after he answered the call for help from a caretaker who was with two 15 year old identical twins males who were in the Vancouver Washington region for some rest and relaxation.
For some strange reason, one of the 15 year old teens either jumped into the Columbia River or he may have fallen into the river by accident to have a swim.
The problem was that the current from the Columbia River was too strong for him to keep him from floating away from the shore.
The caretaker then cried for someone to rescue the teenager whose name was not released to the public. Eric then took action to dive into the Columbia River to save the teen from drowning in the cold river.
Deputies of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office managed to rescue Eric and the teenager from losing their lives in the cold Columbia River after both of them struggled to stay afloat for a period of about 20 minutes at the Marine Park.
Lesson to be learned is that the teenager will likely think twice before entering a body of water that is cold since the shock of getting chills on a human body can take its toll quickly and send the victim into a sleepy state.
I get it now since bootstrapping means you work to get to the top via hard work.
This is a beautiful picture
My pleasure to share a picture of the Columbia River.
That must be a a risky thing to do but people still do it!
What I know about people who have to risk their lives is that they claim that they say a prayer before going into a dangerous situation and have faith it will come out all right.
I know it’s all about trust and faith but some people do it to save someone because they have the courage to do it.
Courage according to some former Vietnam veterans is acting on your knowledge when you pee in your pants.
I guess squeaky wheels do get the grease after all.
Another super story about saving people’s lives, just great!!!
Stories like these do make my day better as well as that of my readers.
tries to save teen, ends up being saved by deputies…
That is true since most likely the caretaker had called the police to inform them what was happening in the river.
you’re going to save me, but who is going to save you?
That is a good question.
it is kinda like the opposite of bootstrapping
Always love your first responder series! thanks as always for the positive message.
My pleasure to share these wonderful stories on this site.
First Responders: Some are Heros, Some are great, some are good, some do bad things. Remember the first three when you consider the 4th!
Thank you for sharing the advice to me.
That actually came from a speech made many years ago. It was by Eugene Debs (the American socialist) in reference to the very brutal way the police broke up a rally he was having.
They, the police, after hearing this, actually protected Debs at his next rally.
Thank God for people like Eric Haley who save lives everyday.
I agree with you that Eric Hailey is a hero who risked his life to save the life of a teen who struggled to stay afloat in the cold Columbia River.
I do not know what this adolescent did, but Eric Haley is really a hero.
The source of the story did not mention if the teen jumped into the river by accident or we has pushed into the river by someone else.
This is called the real hero , one must learn from this story
Eric did risk his life to save the teen from drowning in the river. The sheriff’s office did their part to get them to safety.
Glad to hear both of these people survived and that help came
Great stories are when the hero risking his life to save another person’s life in a river accident gets help when they needed it most.
