Blog: Despite my lack of running, the passion is always there

My run mileage has really suffered thus far into this year, but I would like to pick it up once the weather warms up, as well as my semester ends this spring. My passion for running has not changed, however, the only thing that holds me back from hitting the pavement is the thought of the cold chills hitting my lungs, as well as trying to squeeze in a run in-between my daily commitments: my internship, work, and school.  Needless to say that getting rest is a priority also and between my commitments, so that I can be rested and devote my energy to my tasks at hand whichever one it may be. With late April being my anniversary for the date I started running, as well as two weeks left in my semester, I would like to start my training up for the 2019 Detroit Marathon.  It will be like good old times sake when I trained for my very first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon back in 2007.

  1. We have plus 1 C and the program says it is felt as minus 4 C, it’s evening now. Sometimes when it’s minus 15 and lower I breath through my scarf . How do skiers breath I always wonder, isn’t the air too cold for them?

    • My lungs struggle even in the 40’s, but I would take that versus anything below 20. I do wear a neck gaiter that helps me breath in warmer air.

And now that you have mentioned skiers, I’m curious also. And they fly down those hills. My lungs would hate me.

  2. I always think it’s cool to run a marathon. It really requires passion, determination and practice, right? I am aiming for a 10km run with my eldest son this year. Hopefully we will be able to make it.

    Keep up the good spirits!

    • Yes, it does require those things to train for it, and while running the race itself. Good luck with it. I cannot remember how many 10k’s I have ran entirely. I stopped counting : )

  3. I used to like running but once I hit 40 I got heel plantar and I could not run anymore, well I can but pay with 2 days following not being able to walk. So now I try and walk with special fitted shoes and I have learned to swim but Im practicing to gain more fitness levels. I am now 65 yrs
