This is srikaya, maybe you know it as sweetsop fruit or sugar-pineapple (Annona squamosa), one of the fruits in my mother’s garden beside carambola or starfruit. Actually, my mother is not the one who like plants. When I used to live with her, it was me who made the yard into the garden and took care of it, but after I had my own house, later she became a fan of plants as well.
This srikaya tree is one that she planted in addition to a replacement starfruit after the previous tree died of age. The tree that became the symbol of prosperity and beauty is quite diligent to bear fruit. This fruit, in addition, tastes good, all parts of the tree have advantages as an herbal medicine.

If you want to join, here is all about 365 Photos Challenge and I am on Day 181.
This looks exactly like cauliflower!
Yes, it’s like cauliflower in shape, Branka, while cauliflower is a vegetable and srikaya is a fruit.
Like a cauliflower but definetly very different. Thanks its very interesting.
Thanks, Pamela. Yes, it’s like cauliflower in shape
Carol is right it looks like cauliflower. It has an interesting color, that makes me want to know what it takes like
It is a half-ripe fruit color, a few more days will full ripe and will turn pale yellow. Unfortunately, I can not tell you the taste.
You have a lot of interesting fruits that seem to have a patent only for Indonesia.
This fruit has long flourished evenly in Indonesia although it seems not our original fruit
Seen one when I was in Singapore and it seems pretty common in Indonesia?
Haven’t tasted on though…
Yes, my friend, this fruit is quite common in Indonesia. Quite a lot of people have the tree.
Hmm… I should really have tried one back then… aiya, wasted !! :p
Hahaha… That’s probably one of the reasons you have to go back.
Haha… a ferry ride back is not too expensive :p
I think if you go to Sumatra (which is closest to Singapore), any city especially Medan, you will find srikaya.

This looks exactly like cauliflower! How cool. How does it taste?
The shape is unique and beautiful, sweet taste. We can eat the fruit by splitting it by hand, then remove it part by part according to the lines.
Sounds incredible and looks like our cauliflower. 🙂
It tastes good, but unfortunately hard to say… Hehe…
The largest diameter of the fruit is about 3.5 “
I haven’t seen it before or heard any of its names. Thanks to your post, I learnt something new today.
Thank you, Ellie. In my country, this fruit is often made jam for bread
I am always curious about the taste. Does it taste similar to anything else?
If you ever know the soursop (Annona muricata L) fruit (I’ve posted it too), it’s a family with this fruit in Annonaceae, with the same first name Annona, the difference, soursop fruit has a combination of sour and sweet, while srikaya is just sweet. It’s hard enough to remember other fruit flavors or jams that alike in taste.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain! Unfortunately, I’ve never tried the other fruit either. It’s amazing how many fruits that we can’t even imagine exist around the world.
Totally agree, Ellie. I think we have the same curiosity about fruits that we have never tasted other than just looking at the picture.
