This poem was written in response to a challenge set at my weekly writers’ group – The Hinckley Scribblers, who meet every Friday morning at Hinckley Library, Leicestershire. The challenge was to write a “quad poem”. This consists of four stanzas, each of four lines of four words, and every word must contain exactly four letters. It’s not as easy as it sounds!
I suppose a sterner challenge would be to insist that every word is different, but I wasn’t prepared to go that far!
Would you care to have a go?

Time
Tick tock tick tock
Keep step don’t stop
Tock tick tock tick
Walk tall don’t trip
Must pace life fast
Zing zest dart dash
Trot trit clop clip
Tock tick tock tick
Time runs like sand
Rush past, take mind
Gone, won’t come back,
Tick tock tick tock
Tock tock tick tick
Such flux must tire
When will time stop?
Tick tick tock tock

Sounds like it was a good challenge. Hope you had fun doing it! How long did it take you to put this poem together?
like it
Well I couldn’t pass up that challenge!
(Apologies for ‘thru’)
Leaf thru your book
Move pawn, king, rook
Pass over iced beck
Move fast your trek
Into deep damp rill
Sure take real will
over mead, hill, plot
past Tom’s rope knot
Move with this beat
Move both your feet
Jump with that time
Leap over this line
Here wave nice hair
Take keek we’ll dare
Skip with much glee
Over dike, bush, tree
Well done! That’s a very good response. I’m going to print it off and take it with me to my writer’s group tomorrow. Let’s see what reaction you get as a result!
Oh, do let’s hear!
Very interesting challenge and you managed to make an interesting poem.
Lovely poem!
