The mission is in Oceanside California, not far from me.
Brief History and the photo I used for the cover.
Founded in 1798. The mission was named after St. Louis IX, King of France, who lived during the 13th century. The San Luis Rey area was occupied by five periods of occupation: Luiseno Indian, Spanish Mission, Mexican Secularization, American Military, and Twentieth Century Restoration.
Luiseno Indians ~ The Luiseno Indians were the native people inhabiting the area for hundreds of years. Their villages were located in the valleys, along streams, by the coast and near the mountains here in San Diego County California. In this post I will show you the remains of what they had built here.
This was my day. My son, grandson and Meika went to check out a little local history… It was a great day.
Below are the ruins of the village once inhabited by the Luiseno.
Another shot, they have put a chain link fence around it to protect the area.
A closer look. I wish the permits would allow us to build with adobe..
All it took was time to dry out the adobe, and people. I love the idea of using natural resources. In the one below you can see the exposed timber to shore up the doorways and windows.
Very old adobe, too bad it got destroyed during battles.
The natives also had some really great gardens and an old Lavederia which I will show you in my next post of the mission.
