Chicago: Memorial to Lumberjack Poet Douglas Malloch

The memorial, which features the figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, is to American poet and short story writer Douglass Malloch (05 May 1877 – 02 Jul 1938). He was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan known for its lumbering and became known as the “Lumbering Poet”. His writings include Round River Drive and “Be the Best of Whatever You Are”. He was also commissioned to write the state song for the state of Michigan and was the Associate Editor of American Lumberman, a Chicago-based trade journal. Many of his works can be found online.

He was married to Helen Miller, a newswoman and founder of the National Federation of Press Women. They had three children.
