This beautiful butterfly was visiting my butterfly bush in Dustin’s garden. It is called a female Tiger Eastern Swallowtail. The male is completely black. See the blue on the back of this one’s tail? That lets you know it is a female. Pretty cool. I love learning about nature. And I cannot wait for spring.
Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time. ~Deborah Chaskin
The colorful image of this butterfly looks great.
Its really cool to see what other parts of the world call this butterfly isn’t it. You know what we call it here in So CA? It is called a Black Swallowtail. We have these and the zebras. I also had a Black Swallowtail caterpillar on my tomatoes when I lived in Memphis. I was horrified when I saw that giant. lol He got released in the woods. … Great shot, and yes, the blue is the best part! Poor girls are always so dull..
Black Swallowtail makes more sense to me Kim. We also have the tigers I just don’t see those as often as these beauties. I know, the females are always dull and in the background.
Very pretty butterfly….I love the black. Great photograph 🙂
Thanks, it is a favorite of mine.
I cannot wait for spring!
Love the butterfly a lot, and thank you for sharing.
Thank you LaJenna, this species is stunning.
A very beautiful butterfly variety!
Yes it is one of my favorites Albert.
I recognize her as the Butterfly Queen.
Another great name for her!
I am impressed with your knowledge of insects (among other things.) What a beautiful shape and appropriate name for this girl 🙂 I also can’t wait for spring.
Thanks Norman, all of the insects and birds are in my backyard. When I see one, I start researching all I can find out about them. I try to offer food and plants to keep them around. It is very interesting and therapeutic.
