Even as a seasoned runner I have those days when I procrastinate to run. There are those times when I just go along with it to allow my body some time to rest, and there are those times when I have to trick my mind in order to get that run in. With that being said, I share with you 4 daily ways to urge yourself to run.
- Routes: If you get bored easily, having different run routes can be refreshing when that urge to run is not there. Different routes also enable you to put out different effort whether the route is tough or easy, as well as the people you encounter during your run. Its great to have routes that have different qualities based off of your moods whether you want to be surrounded by people or not, and even routes that offer qualities to comfort you like softer terrain, peace or shade.
- Bring workout clothing & shoes with you: Bring workout clothing & running shoes with you and store it in your vehicle, bag, locker, or anywhere accessible to you. Sometimes the urge can come-and-go, but if you are lucky enough you will get that urge during your break-time.
- Sleep in workout clothing: After waking up in the morning you have a different mindset, and ready to start the day. Sleeping in workout clothing allows you to get up and go, or get up and go after you finish your morning commitments.
- Just do it: As like jumping in a cold pool to avoid that that slow chilling feeling of getting in the water, just going for a run unexpectedly can do wonders as well. The mind works in mysterious ways too when you trick it. You only cheat yourself when you give in to the thoughts of not wanting to run for whatever unknown reasons.

I am not into running but walking I do.
Keep on walking, Florel
Yes, I hope weather is good so I can do morning and late afternoon walk
Thanks! Enjoy your day, Tasartcraft
These will be important tips for me after I eat plenty during the holidays.
Yep yep. I think more people would have less excuses if they knew how much of a health detriment it is not being active in some way. We invest in feeding our belly, so why not invest in our fitness.
Just do it baby! My trick, the dogs look at me with those eyes. I don’t run though. Leave that up to the others.. The thems, like you. 😉
Forgot to mention how important shoes are for strolling, walking, hiking, biking and running. Also, I love love love my hiking clothes. I do not wear cotton any longer.
That would actually be fun to have a dog as a run partner. If only I had that interest in getting one. Maybe I can rent somebodies dog, lol.
They do love it. lol. yes you could rent one. hahaa, got any friends w/dogs?
That would be the coolest thing running on a low, or medium difficulty leveled trail with a doggy : ) I’d have to wear my trail backpack with doggy treats inside and human treats for me : )
The right dog, and they make backpacks for them. A lot of people make them haul their own stuff. 😉
Sweet! Maybe I’ll put my snacks in that doggy pack to lessen my load, resulting in my moving faster : )
lol you might want to borrow a large breed. 😉
What kind of large breed, a Saint Bernard, lol
lol, they just don’t have the endurance you need. The perfect dog for you would be a German Shepherd, an Austrailian Shepherd, Australian Cattle dog, or Lab.
I wouldn’t mind a German Shepherd.
Great breed. I have had them my whole life. One of my favorite breeds.
Very interesting to read. I don’t do much running to be honest, but I do walk a lot, which I enjoy.
Well keep on walking, Coffee Queen I ain’t mad at ya
I love running but now in winter is worse, when I ti s really sunny is when I run best
Tell me about it. Summer, winter, and fall are my favorite season to run in
I’m trying to build up a habit of walking/jogging at least 4 times a week.
Sadly, I always give in to circumstances and not doing it.
Since I’m planning to do my running in the morning at weekends, I guess sleeping in my running outfit would help.
Without the shows of course.
Thanks for this post.
That is a pretty great goal. If I can give you any advice it would be to just do it, or take notice of the time your typical circumstances grab your attention then do it beforehand. Sleeping in my outfit, I would always have everything I needed near, so that all I had to do is walk out the door.
I’m still building the habit of walking daily, maybe later I can step up for running.
Btw, Nice tips – my fav is the third one 😉
It adds to the excitement because you are up-and-out the door as you wake up with a refreshing mindset : )
