Unique Pistachio People Cigar Box Dioramas

Hellie Blythe, a Paso Robles California artist, paints and creates amazing mixed media dioramas in cigar boxes. As I write this post, her work is on display at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles, the art hub of the city. I have been admiring her originality and creativity for years now, but have yet to meet her. It seems whenever I visit Studios on the Park, she is not in her studio. Maybe one of these days I will yet see here there.

She loves to use pistachio nutshells in creating the people for her dioramas. The photo above shows “The Alchemist.” You can see how original it is. But it’s the labels she writes that always make me laugh. Here is the label she wrote for “The Alchemist.”

Here’s another of my favorites — “The World’s First Successful Brain Transplant.”

Here’s a close-up of that.

Here’s the very clever label.

Here’s one more for you: “The Magician.” The label is underneath.

This is just a sampling of Hellie Blythe’s creative work. Although I took all the photos, all the cigar box dioramas and the labels were created and written by Hellie Blythe.

Have you ever seen artists who create with pistachio nut shells? What do you think of Hellie’s work?
