At the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and Essex Street in Salem Massachusetts there is a beautiful outdoor man-made artwork called Stickworks “What the Birds Know” created by North Carolina sculptor Patrick Dougherty. He had several other North Shore sculptors help with this project.
Most of the branches came from the local area in Salem and some travel to Gloucester to collect different types of wood. Made with thousands of woven branches, each nest has it’s own appearance, filtering in warm sunlight from different angles. Stickworks sculpture is an interactive exhibit free of charge to public. I recommend if you come to Salem to visit this beautiful work of art.
That’s a very unusual piece of art. I heard about some people in BC making a giant bird’s nest too but I think it was a temporary display. They were having some sort of festival about birds.
