When I was a kid, we’d call this sort of style loosey goosey. This is simply about getting some marks down on the paper, and perhaps some color in to suggest a palette. These days I call it quick & dirty but that doesn’t sound nearly as fun (just much more accurate)
No offense to geese is intended or should be inferred
Sometimes it is fun just to just slap some pigment around and just see what shakes out
Experimentation; it’s not just for college anymore
Very interesting mix of textures on the hair. I like it.
Ever use margarita salt on watercolor?
Not yet, I am more the paint over sandpaper type, rflol. Since I am a teetotaler I don’t have any margarita salt, should I get some?
Panting on sandpaper? It must be murder on your brushes! Post some already…
Hubby gave me pastels to try on the sandpaper and I am sure I did not keep those paintings.
Her lips are more hypnotic than her eyes. .
Glad to hear that I can mix it up once in a while…
Whatever term you use, this painting is special!
I hang out with artists, go players and computer geeks- almost none of them know what I am talking abut…
Maybe the term you use when you were a kid is not used by others for various reasons, brother.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you were right
So, what is the truth about the incomprehension?
Artists don’t tend to know go lingo, computer geeks don’t recognize art terminology, not all go players understand internet protocols…
This is very beautiful!
I am glad you like her. My plan is to do more portraiture and to explore different looks and styles in the process
It’s great that you are always ready to experiment and share diverse artworks!
I strongly believe that a large part of being an artist is experimentation, so a certain percentage of my work will always be R&D
I don’t often drink Vodka but when I do I prefer from Russia With Love: Stolychniya, and my White Russians shaken not stirred.
I like my white russians nude except for a hat. No wait, what were we talking about?
As long as that hat is a Beret or one of those fur caps, black russians, white russians, give em to me straight….I forgot, I think it had to do with a goose or maybe Holiday dinner?
ushankas, astrakhans, it doesn’t matter to me
I don’t like geese very much but I’d fly with this one. Beautiful work Alex!
Not a fan of grey goose? We know someone who is…
Well I love it! When I saw just the photo I knew it was your post. Your style is hard to miss, and that is a compliment.
I’m glad to hear you like my head shots
Well, all I have to say is that I just love this one. The colors are muted and the young woman looks very absorbed by her thoughts. Good enough to hang on a wall. It almost looks I the same style as a painting I used to have from Andre Bertounesque.
I sorta look like a young Andre Bertounesque
I so less-than-three less-than-three this.
Sharing…
Plain text emoji FTW. Thanks for the share!
Glad to. You keep up the incredible work.
You could illustrate a comic book, couldn’t you.
I could do the cover for a comic book. I can do pinups for a comic book or even a splash page but a book is a lot of work. I don’t think I am fast enough to do a book…
Sometimes less is more. The tighter you try to hold onto something, the more it slips from your grasp… Go players would say this piece has a lot of aji
You are too funny.
I love this one. She looks in deep thought.
Her eyes, lips, hair and the mysterious details left out intentionally.
Sometimes less is more. The tighter you try to hold onto something, the more it slips from your grasp… Go players would say this piece has a lot of aji
There you go again throwing out the lingo I have to research. The spice. The sauce. Got it! I agree most of the time less is more. You got have room to breathe.
“You gotta have room to breathe”
Sorry about the confusing terminology. In this case I would translate aji as potential, but in the sense that it indicates something being unfinished or unresolved. Unsettled might be the best translation. Rough sketches are still kinda up in the air, leaving the artist with a lot of options for a final destination
That’s the fun part of leaving something loose…
Never apologise for teaching us things! 🙂
