Of all the things Moorcock wrote, my favorite is probably the introduction to the Corum books. Don’t get me wrong, I am and always will be an Elric man but that bit at the beginning always stirs my imagination, makes me excited to read more…
Anyway, I am thinking about illustrating it. The text which follows is the intro and was written by Michael Moorcock
#1 hazy version
In those days there were oceans of light and cities in the skies and wild flying beasts of bronze. There were herds of crimson cattle that roared and were taller than castles. There were shrill veridian things that haunted bleak rivers. It was a time of gods, manifesting themselves upon the world in all her aspects; a time of giants who walked on water; of mindless sprites and misshapen creatures who could be summoned by an ill-considered thought but driven away only on the pain of some fearful sacrifice; of magics, phantasms, unstable nature, impossible events, insane paradoxes, dreams come true, dreams gone awry, of nightmares assuming reality
Love the watercolor the best.
Watercolor is dark horsing it
He just keeps getting more distinct and therefore more scary…
You want the demon should be passive?
You might have that expectations for variants on a finished piece, but when the piece is still in progress, I would expect a wide range in emotion until the work has matured enough to be coherant
A little over the top for me but that is ok. I love these words.. “of nightmares assuming reality”
Very evocative writing!
Indeed, the words are perfect for your art.
I always dug on the prince in the scarlet robe
Prefer hazy version with more light, to my mind, it looks more effective in such way.
More otherworldly and transitional
Love the details on his skin!!
SOmehow I like the watercolour versions a little more, but all versions are great!!
I am glad to hear you think so
Most of my experience is in making dreams come true.
I like to get my feet wet in a lot of different puddles- it helps to have a basis for comparison and a lot of experience
Nice, very very nice. Bring on the phantasms!
Magics, phantasms, unstable nature, impossible events, insane paradoxes, dreams come true, dreams gone awry, nightmares assuming reality, I’ve dabbled in them all…
