I’m sure that there are many of you out there that have taken cruises and enjoyed them very much. If you have children, some cruise ships have a program to keep them busy while you are enjoying yourselves. They fulfill a need to relax, socialize and see new destinations.
My husband and I are not “cruisers”. We don’t care for the constricted travel at each port and spending time on a ship when we could be exploring a new destination. Stops at each port are so short that you really don’t have a lot of time to explore each new city; and if you don’t hurry back to the ship before it sails, you could be left behind!
Also, there is always the chance of tainted food, theft, etc. The argument could be that these things can happen on any trip anywhere. I also worry about the cruise ship being top heavy and capsizing ala “The Poseidon Adventure”. A half-hour in a deck chair would be our maximum unless we fell asleep; and we’re not into shuffleboard, wave rides, lots of children running around or topside calisthenics. The 24-hour buffets would be great; but we’d weigh 1,000 pounds by the time the cruise was over.
If we are taking a long trip, we usually fly to the destination city and rent a car. We’ve also taken shorter trips totally by car, stopping to see points of interest along the way.
Some time ago we flew to San Diego and then rented a car. The first thing we did was take a bus down to Tijuana. We had never been to Mexico and just wanted to cross the border! We then traveled all the way up to Vancouver, Canada, making stops along the way, and then took the plane back from SeaTac (Seattle/Tacoma) Airport. We never stopped during the whole trip. If we’re going to travel, we want to see and do as much as we possibly can. We can relax when we get back home.
How do you feel about cruise ship trips? I’m sure there are many of you that will disagree with my opinion! Let me know what you think, pro or con!

not saying I wouldn’t enjoy a cruise, but I’ve never been on one. not my sort of vacation…
Mine either. I like to make every minute count when I’m on vacation.
I suppose if I didn’t care about the destination then a ship would be a fine way to travel…
Some of it I loved and some I did not. I was lost on the ship every moment. My husband finally hired a house boy to walk me to wherever I wanted to go. Most evenings I ended up at the piano bar and the rest of the gang would find me there.
lol I don’t mean to laugh but I can just see you wandering around lost on the ship.
I was not on a cruise yet. I agree with your thoughts.
We checked the cruise to Japan and it was exorbitant, cannot afford it.
Not sure I would enjoy one, unless it was an Alaskan cruise perhaps.
Never been on cruis , can some one tell me the cheapest cruise fare.
Sorry. I can’t help you. I’ve never taken a cruise because I don’t care to travel that way. Maybe try Royal Caribbean?
While I did enjoy it, I would not do it again. Once was enough.
I have nothing but great memories of the cruise we took a few years ago. It was to the Bahamas and the only port we docked at was Nassau. We were taken by boat to Coco Cay Island where we spent a beautiful day by the beach.
There were many activities on the ship including a formal dinner with the Captain
I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
