Winter’s cooler temperatures and lack of vegetation forces wild rabbits to spend more time in search of food. They often seek shelter in underground dens they have lined with grass, straw and twigs as insulators. The winter months aren’t tough on wild rabbits solely due to the lack of food. This is the time when humans and other animal predators target them as prey. Game and Fish Magazine states that wild rabbits are hunted in the winter months by house cats and bobcats on the ground and by hawks, owls and other feathered predators from the sky.
Now you know what happens to the rabbits. I miss seeing them running around in my yard. This photo was taken from my deck in my backyard during the summer.

The Balkan people love the rabbits mainly on the plate … hah .. it may sound terrible, but the rabbit meat is very tasty.
I tried it once but didn’t think it was anything special.
The rabbit meat demands a lengthy process. It is necessary to know how long it is preparing, and with what kind of spices.
You just reminded me, I got scared by a rabbit on Tuesday. giggles. It jumped out of a bush and ran across the trail, it was a jack rabbit, and I thought it was a coyote at first. They are huge!!
Those are big rabbits. The ones I see are smaller.
Meika says she remembers that photo. She still wants to come visit, she would take care of those pesky wabbits for you!!
I bet she would. They are cute running around the yard chasing each other.
Us too, cute little cotton tails. 😉 Not knee high deer looking creatures. lol
I do see rabbits where I love, but I think I see more squirrels, which are also cute to watch. Have a great day my friend.
I would rather see squirrels. You too!
Our rabbits turn bright white and spend more time in their burrows. They are still around, but harder to see in the snow.
We have the brown cottontails here.
I see them every once in a while when I’m out walking the dog at night. I see them occasionally in the winter when we have a temporary warm-up.
They are cool to see and your dog probably likes to chase them.
He used to but he is getting pretty old and doesn’t chase anymore.
I have never seen wild rabbits around me.
If they had a strategy to survive from predators maybe they could maintain their numbers!
Yes it is sad, they run but cannot hide from many predators.
I very rarely see a rabbit …
That is a shame I see them most of the year..
The rabbits I see are all in the pet shops …
or in some cages :/
Too bad, I love seeing them run free in the wild and my backyard.
