It is rather amazing that despite all the hype regarding the climate, far more people live in hot climates than in cool ones. Many of those hot climates are deserts. To be fair, there are cold deserts as well as hot ones and some deserts are both hot and cold.
For example, for many years I lived at the edge of what is called the Oregon High Desert. This area covers most of the southeast part of Oregon. It typically gets less than 10 inches of precipitation per year, which makes it a desert. Yet, the temperature gets above 100 F / 38 C in the summer and down to around -20 F and C in the winter. Most precipitation falls as snow, which means that the summer is usually dry.
Some deserts appear barren, yet there is life in most deserts, even when it isn’t evident, too.

They are gorgeous! I have 5 acres here in the desert in San Diego County. I visit in the spring, winter, and fall.
I’ve always thought that deserts were beautiful, too. I can do without the extreme heat of many deserts, but still feel that there is beauty there.
I never lived in the desert, but would love to visit.
There are plenty of deserts that you could visit. Each is different than the others, too.
I visited a desert when I was very small in Nevada. We lived in Vegas at the time. That is all I remember.
I’ve been through Vegas a few times and that area is definitely desert. :))
I actually was a baby so don’t remember but saw photos. My Dad’s job transferred there for a few months.
You didn’t miss a great deal. You also disprove the statement that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”.
Ha, now that was a good one Rex. 🙂
What a great poll!!!!
I’m really glad you liked it.
