I talked about my golden Privet hedge the other day with all the blooms and bees. You can see it here: Privet Bee if you are interested. Today I wanted to share the actual foundation of the hedge and the bark underneath the hedge. It started out a very small plant and it is still growing about seven feet tall this year. Amazed at the thickness of the trunk and the pretty bark. This is a good sign that it will keep growing. it has a strong foundation. You never see this unless you almost get under the hedge to look at it. I was looking at the bees and happened to see it and snapped a photo.

Thanks, another tree in my yard. 🙂
I enjoy learning about nature, and you always teach us great things about it. Great photo!
Thanks LaJenna, I love this time of year in my backyard.
Leafsnap, it is a great iPhone app that lets you take pictures of leaves and flowers and tells you exactly what they are.
Cool, I will check it out Doc, thanks for the heads up.
I can hear my father now, don’t use technology for things you can do yourself! But it is a great application~!
Things change, I am trying to keep up.
This is something new for me , never heard before.
It started out being a tiny bush with blooms and it continues to grow. I want more!
Great, Keep it up and share more story of this
Thank you I will. Hoping they build a second nest.
The privet hedge my late husband planted for his mom in Illinois is over 60 years old was still looking good on Google Earth the last time I checked. Do you know how old yours is?
Wow it probably is huge! Mine is 11 yeas old. Googles Earth is so cool.
I think we have this plant here, but I wasn’t aware of its name.
I usually post macros but I will post the entire hedge so you can see it in more detail Ellie.
Is the pink between leaves and twig is the fruit?
Funny that you noticed Albert. I have no idea what that is. I saw it on my computer after taking the photo and tried figuring it out. The hedge has no fruit, only blooms. It has to be the underside of a leaf. I plan to go out and check it out today because now I am curious!
… maybe that was my hand, one on the camera nd the other above the leaves. Still not sure.
It has a thick bark like a tree, I thought it was more of a small bush. It looks nice.
Yes it does, I was so surprised!
It gets very tall and I have to keep it trimmed back or it would get out of hand.
