Bronze Statue of Carolus Linnaeus in the Circle Garden (2014-06-26 14-13-51a)
The statue is located in the Circle Garden of the Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, Illinois. Linnaeus (1701-1778) was a Swedis botanist who developed our modern system of classifying plants and animals.
The sculpture is the work of Robert Berks (1922-2011) and was done in 1982.
I used a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera to take the photo and ACDSee Ultimate 10.4 to adjust the lighting and boost the contrast and vibrance.Photo © 2014 Gary J. Sibio. All rights reserved.
Incredible statue, this would be so cool to see in person.
It is nice. I’m just glad to see a sculpture that actually looks like what it’s supposed to be. There’s a sculpture in a local sculpture park that I can’t figure put at all. It looks like a dinosaur turd.
I know, it is very realistic. It caught my eye for sure. You are funny. 🙂
Thank you very much. I’m glad you liked it.
Very good photography, I am fascinated by the contrast of the almost opaque green of the vegetation with the shine of the metal of the statue. I congratulate you for the image that you achieved and that you share with us.
Thank yuo very much for your kind words, Arelis.
A statue representing a man who was a botanist, surrounded by green shrubs. A really beautiful photo.
Thanks, Robin. The Chicago Botanic Gardens are a great place to visit. It was established by the Chicago Garden Club in the 1970s. Lots of great stuff there.
This is an amazing sculpture.
I like it a lot also.
Oh I’d love to go see that. That’s a lovely photo.
Thanks, CoffeeQueen. The Gardens are a great place to visit if you are ever in the Chicago area.
The style of the statue is unique
I don’t know much about sculpture but I’ve never seen any like this either. Perhaps the closest would be the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in New York City’s Central Park. Even that one is not that close.
I love this sculpture. Sad they I’ve never bumped into it
The CBG has an app which guides you around. It might be able to lead you to it.
Sweet! I will check that application out
This is an amazing sculpture, it’s beautifully done.
Thank you, Pamela. I appreciate it.
