Bronze Statue of Carolus Linnaeus in the Circle Garden, Chicago Botanic Gardens

Bronze Statue of Carolus Linnaeus in the Circle Garden (2014-06-26 14-13-51a)

The statue is located in the Circle Garden of the Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, Illinois. Linnaeus (1701-1778) was a Swedis botanist who developed our modern system of classifying plants and animals.

The sculpture is the work of Robert Berks (1922-2011) and was done in 1982.

I used a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera to take the photo and ACDSee Ultimate 10.4 to adjust the lighting and boost the contrast and vibrance.Photo © 2014 Gary J. Sibio. All rights reserved.

    • It is nice. I’m just glad to see a sculpture that actually looks like what it’s supposed to be. There’s a sculpture in a local sculpture park that I can’t figure put at all. It looks like a dinosaur turd.

  1. Very good photography, I am fascinated by the contrast of the almost opaque green of the vegetation with the shine of the metal of the statue. I congratulate you for the image that you achieved and that you share with us.

    • Thanks, Robin. The Chicago Botanic Gardens are a great place to visit. It was established by the Chicago Garden Club in the 1970s. Lots of great stuff there.

    • I don’t know much about sculpture but I’ve never seen any like this either. Perhaps the closest would be the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in New York City’s Central Park. Even that one is not that close.
