Bluebird Baby Eggs ~ Color Crazy

Each spring I put up a backyard bluebird house in Dustin’s garden. I usually get to witness two to three families  of bluebirds build the nest, lay the eggs, see the babies born, then witness them flying away. It is such a joy to witness what I call a miracle.

Bluebird Eggs

A quick photo of beautiful blue bluebird eggs in my backyard bluebird house in the spring. So exciting! I also got to see them all hatch and fly away. They lay between two and five eggs.

Baby Bluebird Fledged

When the Bluebirds fly out (fledge) of the house, they immediately start flying. It is a miracle to witness. I was lucky to get this photo as soon as the baby fledged. The parents were dive bombing me as they protect the young for weeks. If you look close you can see the spots on his back. This lets you know he is a baby bird.

  5. Beautiful, beautiful! Bluebirds are maybe my favorite birds, partly because their eggs are so sweet. Your photo is extra nice. :- ) How lovely that you get to see the families season after season. We have them in our area. I see the eggs broken open on the ground, and the birds here and there, but they do stay well hidden because of so many predators. They have to be wary of squirrels, cats, and other birds, especially crows.

    • Yes, you have to be very watchful to have successful broods. Sparrows are another huge enemy. They will kill the bluebirds and babies, then build a nest on top of them!

    • How kind of you, thank you very much. The bluebirds are so special each spring when they visit my backyard. I cannot put into words how much joy they bring.
