"Cat's In the Cradle" is often attributed to Cat Stevens, but it is actually a Harry Chapin song. It was the first I ever learned as a young girl, and it opened the door for me to discover many more wonderful songs by this artist whose life was ended all too soon.

I was just a kid when this song became a hit, but I remember some of my girlfriends singing it in the schoolyard at recess. It sounds like it's about a historic battle between the mob and the police, but the incident is fictitious.
#7 My Sweet Lord – George Harrison
George Harrison's hit song, "My Sweet Lord" from "All Things Must Pass" (1970) - the album went 6x platinum! The song is one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time. According to Pattie Boyd's autobiography, George wrote My Sweet Lord in their kitchen at Friar Park. It was #1 in the US for 38 weeks in 1970. Beautiful spiritual song, enjoy! ?

Gilbert hails from the same county of Ireland as myself (Wexford) so I feel a special affinity for his heartfelt ballads. In Casey Kasem's American Top 40 of the 1970s, "Alone Again (Naturally)" ranked as the fifth most-popular song of the decade. Would it be a hit if released today? You know the answer to that ?
