Welcome to a new week in the Color Crazy Challenge.
This week is yellow!
Let’s fill Virily with some cheery yellow sunshine!
Here is my addition.
#1 The yellow variegated Agave plant.
#2 There were four of them on the bank of the park.
#3 Then the largest one.
I am 5'5" tall and the camera is up to my eyes. Looking up to the sky! This large one was around 12'-15' tall. It was huge.
This variety of Agave is one in a group of Agave called the Agave Americiana. It has several variegated versions that are common in cultivation.
This is the Marginata version with yellow striping down the sides of the leaves. The imprint of the previous leaf is imprinted on young leaves like you see here.
#4 Young leaf emerging.
#5 Pretty stripes
#6 The spider web
Took on some really pretty color as well.
You might of heard of Agave sweetener. It is the syrup used by crushing the leaves and is very high in sugar and has been in practice since they started making tequila. The natives called it Miel de Agave. It was believed to have medicinal properties.
#7
It's sap was boiled to produce the sweetener. The sugars are also fermented to make tequila.
However, by boiling or refining tends to destroy some or all of these health benefits. The Agave Sweetener made today is no exception, and could be more unhealthy than white sugar.
Because agave syrup is much higher in fructose than plain white sugar, it has a potential for causing adverse health benefits, such as increased belly fat and fatty liver disease.
I hoped you enjoyed the pictures and these little facts about the Agave. Have a great week and enjoy the yellow!
I love these, the colors are stunning.
They really are stunning. So eye catching!
