These birds are such a delight to see at the deck feeder. This is the male Northern Cardinal. The female is more of a brown with a reddish colored beak and tail. The male always has a burst of color stronger than the female.
Sharing this photo with my Backyard Birds series I started awhile back. I have many different birds that visit the deck feeder. This one has a sunflower seed in his mouth. He cracks it and leaves the shells for me to clean up.
My Dad always called these redbirds. We talked every day about birds. I miss those talks.
They also look stunning in the snow with their bright red color. The sunflower seeds and peanuts are two of their favorite foods. Snapped this one in December before I took down the feeder.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

I want to see this charm live.
They are absolutely gorgeous birds.
And the female is a duller reddish brown color, but she is pretty as well.
i have learned that they watch me and fly away!
i guess I am a scary presence!
a lovely picture of the Cardinal!
You have to move very slowly. Thanks!
i am working on it, i actually was close Sunday when I filled the bird feeder
I am sure they look stunning against a snowy background. Such pretty birds.
Yes they do, like a Christmas card.
The Cardinals are very beautiful birds, dear friend
Yes I agree with you Lado. One of my favorites.
Cardinals are such bright colored birds. You basically cannot mistake them with other birds. We have cardinals here but not as much as bluejays or seagulls or chikadees or carouge à épaulettes or the blasted crows etc… So whenever I see one I rejoice and try to keep him in my eyesight…
I love seeing them any time, especially during the winter. We have a lot of bluejays as well. And crows!
The cardinals are beautiful birds. Too bad we don’t have them in our country.
I agree and too bad you don’t have these beauties.
The female is much duller in color. But still beautiful.
Cardinals are such gorgeous birds. Wonderful capture, Carol!
Thanks, I always think of my Dad when I see them.
My mother has a big book on birds, and I want to keep learning about them.
I am always learning, I have new ones each year in my yard.
This one is a mile, bright red, and the female is a duller color.
