How long does it take for a car to warm up and reach fatal temperatures?

Summer is near and every year we hear stories about parents who forget their child inside cars and sometimes the consequences are fatal. Children are more likely to suffer a heat stroke as children’s body temperature rises faster compared to adults, and their small bodies take longer to cool, besides that children have less control over their environment and don’t abandon a specific situation in an emergency. On a hot day, a car parked under sunlight can reach potentially fatal temperatures for a child in just one hour, and even a vehicle standing in a shady area can heat up dangerously after two hours. Diseases related to overheating occur when the body is unable to regulate its own temperature, potentially resulting in organ failure, brain damage and death.

A child is at extreme risk of developing a disease related to overheating when reaching a body temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or more. We should always remember that children need our care and it is easier than we think forget a child inside a car (or because we are in a rush, or they are quiet or sleeping, or we are thinking about something else…). Just be aware of this and look after your children ?
