Your Place in the Community

We live in a society where everyone becomes a member of a community and most become a member of several communities. is A community is a small or large social unit that has something in common, such as norms, religion, values, or identity.  Finding your comfort zone in any particular community can be challenging. Virily is a community.

There are many different roles here and finding your place in the community can be interesting, challenging and often fun. Sometimes people never find their “comfort zone”, and those are uncomfortable and tend to hang out on the fringes.

It should be noted that there is no right or wrong place. Roles and comfort zones change, grow, and sometimes simply pass away. Interests change.

On Virily we have a leaderboard. My husband declares that the leader board simply identifies the “chatty Cathy and Carl people. He has a point. He also says there are a group of onlookers. They don’t often say anything and spend a lot of time just looking. With that in mind, let’s talk first about those two roles or comfort zones.

Onlookers tend to be reserved. They don’t often say much and they observe and can tell you a lot about the other community members. They get to know you by what you write and comment on. They may share their opinion of others, but not typically on this site. (It’s amazing how many other sites you can find where people are talking about “us”. Onlookers are similar to news reporters. They look at the perceived facts and report it elsewhere.

Those on the leaderboard tend to be driven to do “something”. The motives can be very different. Some love to write. Others find value in teaching others. Some are simply natural speakers and can deal with being suddenly placed under a microscope.

So here are some questions.
