Voice Control may be sooner than you think!

Amazon, Google, and Facebook have all brought out “voice-controlled” home portals. The Google home is a great toolset when it comes to managing Google Devices. I haven’t found as many non-google devices now, that are computability, but that is changing over time. The Amazon portals offer lots of interesting features and right now are the most integrated with other 3rd party solutions. Using the Alexa application, I have connected my home vacuum cleaner (Roomba), my weather station (Bloomsky) and of course my home security system (Canary) are all connected to Amazon Alexa. The interesting integration point today is the new Facebook Portal.

You can connect the Facebook portal to the Amazon Alexa application. The Facebook portal is an interesting toolset, one I am playing with and will share more on later. But the concept of voice control continues to expand. It is something that I suspect most people haven’t yet embraced, but as more and more things begin to move towards voice control, I am not sure you will have the option to not” have one. There are cars with the Google system integrated, cars with the Microsoft (Cortana Sync system), cars with the Amazon Alexa system available today. There are cars that let you choose (Apple Car Play, or Android Carplay) which system you use, every single day! IE in my car I use both.

Now the argument against both motion and voice control is the reality of crowded subway trains (“mom why is that man talking to Alexa, there isn’t anyone with him?”). The more ambient noise around you the more the voice control system struggles. But they continue to improve with every single iteration of the products.

The connection reality is what I find interesting right now. I can use my Google Home device to broadcast Youtube videos onto Keecker. OF course, because Keecker is an AndroidTV device, it has a native YouTube client, but it is interesting to be able to push things from my desk to the wall. The future of what is possible remains something I think will continue to expand. The connected home of tomorrow is the future state we are heading for. The value for users, people, etc is that with voice control, you don’t have to get out of your chair (or for those bound to a wheelchair it frees them even further).

Oh to live in interesting times!
