The Art of Complaining

I was raised in a family where complaining was tolerated. There were some rules about complaining that were strictly enforced.

1.   You couldn’t complain with having two reasonable options to solve the problem you are complaining about.

2.   You could use no foul language.

3.   If you aren’t willing to help solve the problem, you cannot participate.

Let’s look at an example from my childhood. I wanted to complain about Mark picking on me. My solution was to send him to a different family. I wasn’t willing to help solve the problem so I couldn’t complain.

My Mom took me into another room to help me come up ways I could help.
