The soldier fly is a friend of the gardeners. The soldier fly larvae are a great help in composting . They help break down the green material in the compost pile and make the composting happen faster.
These larvae are a great source of protein and make great chicken feed. I am also told that they can be fed to other birds and hamsters.
The larvae do look creepy and but believe me they are helpful.

The succulent looks pretty! I do some simple composting. There are flies in my garden, but I can’t recognize them. 😛
Thank you Kaka135 I follow a simple process too.
Such a lovely succulent. Plants can make our neighborhood a paradise. What is the name of this plant?
Its a succulent, its called echeveria peach pride.
I am sure they do, doc. Compost piles are always full of them.
We have huh, I just don’t think military flies live here … great picture, dear Dawn
LOL , they are called soldier flies, I really don’t know why though . Haha
Why don’t you post any post? You can’t post either?
I had posted Lado but the posts were not getting approved. It happened to all non verified members.
This looks like a sedum. I don’t see many flies since the cows left.
If you compost you might see them in summer. This is an echeveria.
we don’t have these, but I am sure some of the farms around us do!
I have never taken the time to identify and fly – so maybe I have them!
Maybe Ghostwriter. They are never far from compost piles.
I have noticed if this insect is around but earthworms do that too.
Earth worms do a great job of composting, but I am yet to get them to help me in the compost bin.
