Saturday Critters: Madagascar CockRoach

Wow! January was over before I knew it. I hate to admit it, I got out of focus in the first month of 2020. I had taken lots of photos in January that I wanted to upload here and on the other sites, but I wasn’t just so active online in January.

Suffice to say, I got a lot to share with you.

To start with, let me share with you a photo of one of the misunderstood critter in the world…  roaches. Well, I still hate the kind that crawls in the dark corners in the houses. But the one I’m holding in my hand… or rather the one holding on to my hand is a Madagascar Cockroach. A pet of one of my students.

Madagascar Cockroach or Madagascar hissing cockroach is known to be one of the largest species of cockroaches. The one on my hand is about a couple of inches long. It’s been said that this species of cockroach could grow up to three inches long.

It does not feel as creepy as the common cockroach. It felt like I was holding a beetle.

Maybe ten or twenty years ago I would not dare touch this one. But lately, I have come to appreciate the bugs more and more.

Don’t get me.wrong… I would still swat a common cockroach with my slippers when I see one. Hehe
