Popcorn is popular in many places, partly because it expands enormously when it pops and partly because plain popcorn is very low calorie per cup if there are no toppings. Of course, most people prefer to have toppings on their popcorn. There is little doubt that in the United States, butter and salt are the most popular toppings, usually used together.
There are a lot more possible toppings, though. To name just a few:
Ranch style: Add an ounce of powdered ranch dressing mix to 10 cups of popcorn and stir it well.
Garlic or onion: Add 1 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder to 1/4 cup melted butter and pour this over the popcorn.
Cheesy: Sprinkle 2 cups of cheese over 15 cups of popped popcorn, pop it in a 350 F oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese melts, and stir.
Spicy: To 1/4 cup of melted butter, mix cayenne powder, chili powder, or paprika (the amount to taste). Mix well with the popcorn.
Barbecue: Mix 1/4 cup melted butter with cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and a small amount of sugar (all seasonings to taste). Stir well in 15 cups popcorn.
This poll is about, you guessed it, fried rutabaga. Just kidding. The poll is about popcorn.

I love popcorn! It goes well with a good movie!
You are absolutely right. Many people don’t know it, but for many years, lots of movie theaters make most of their money on the popcorn that is sold.
Freshly popped popcorn is delicious with plain salt.
A very large number of people eat popcorn that way.
I love mine with melted butter and salt. I also like to mix it up with some flavored oil, then various spices and finally mix with grated cheese or parmesan.
I suspect that by doing it that way, it never gets boring, right?
Absolutely Rex, never boring and really good.
I used to love Hurricane popcorn from Hawaii. Unfortunately, my dentist has asked me to stop eating popcorn so I have not had any for more than 8 years.
That sounds interesting. What is Hurricane popcorn?
Hawaiian Hurricane Popcorn consists of popcorn, melted butter, Nori (dry roasted seaweed flakes), sesame seeds, and Japanese rice crackers all tossed together. It isn’t for everyone but it is a melting pot of flavors much like Hawaiian culture.
That actually sounds good. The Nori might be difficult to get, but one of the associate pastors at our church, and his wife who is one of the secretaries, are from Hawaii, so maybe I’ll ask if they can get me some the next time they go back for a visit.
I homemade mine, don’t buy outside.
We do too. The last time I bought popcorn that was already popped was around 1985, if I remember right.
I use only salted, I did not know about these other additives.Maybe I’ll try another way.
One thing about it is that popcorn is very easy to make and it is inexpensive, so a person can experiment easily.
I really enjoy popcorn since it is a great meal.
It certainly can be if a person is on a diet. :))
Like myself since I am shedding some pounds right now.
I like it best with butter, salt, and Parmesan cheese. And then there’s caramel corn!
I think I’ve tried it with Parmesan, but it has been a while.
Salted and buttered is hard to beat.
That is the way I like it, but sometimes it is nice to have it another way.
Yes, I love caramel corn.
