I had only heard about nutmegs when I was reciting that nursery rhyme ‘I had a little nut tree….” Little did I know that I will have my very own tree.
This tree is many years old. We had to plant two of them as that is what the rule said about nutmegs and their pollination.
We do not have to harvest them per se. They just fall and we need to pick them up. This happens during the rainy season We have to dry them up too before storing them.
The outer red cover which is known as mace has a good price. We sell both the nutmegs and the mace.
The nutmeg tree is a haven for birds. It is a joy to listen to their chirps. You can listen to their chirps here:

I just like the taste of nutmeg in desserts, but my late mother believed that nutmeg had all kinds of medicinal benefits. She used to suck on whole nutmegs like you suck on hard candy.
They are good for lung congestion

They grow well here and there is good demand for this spice.

I don’t use nutmeg very often.
We only use in some of our desserts. Mother used to add in our egg flip specially if we had lung congestion.

Both the mace and the nutmeg are some of the most amazing spices. I use both a lot in my baking. Hmm.. I wish I could have a nutmeg tree.
You can bonsai it as you will need it for your baking.
