Sharing the purple blooms on my monkey grass. This plant is used as a border around my garden.
It comes back each year. Very low maintenance. And a bonus is the purple blooms.

Why is it called a monkey grass? I might’ve seen it but not very sure.
As Doc and I were talking below, who really knows! I read this explanation…
Monkey grass has many common names including lily turf, liriope, mondo grass, and snakesbeard. There are many varieties of monkey grass, all of which belong to Liriope or Ophiopogon. Also known as mondo grass, monkey grass is native to the country of Japan.
i have always been curious why it was called Monkey grass. that is one of those names that doesn’t make sense to me.

It sounds like a new series to me!
Probably so, it gets a little in depth when you start researching.
it would be interesting. still as Mark Twain once wrote you have to wonder what made the first person call it Monkey Grass!
This is so beautiful, I don’t think I have seen it before.
Thanks, the blooms were a nice surprise years ago when I first got planted it.
I saw similar leaves but no flowers. So I don’t know if it was the same plant.
I don’t think they all bloom, I was surprised.
Then maybe I really saw this plant.
I don’t think I’ve seen this plant in my area.
I love it as a border plant and the blooms were a surprise.
That’s pretty, Carol. I never knew it bloomed. I had the regular monkey grass at our last house, but never saw it blooming. The variegated is pretty, a little more color in the leaves.
Thank you Karen. I look forward to the blooms every year. I also like the variegated, I have hostas as well.
I’m not sure. The leaves are very familiar to me, but I am surprised by this beautiful violet color.
The blooms surprised me as well. A nice bonus. I planted only to use as a border and I am happy with how they turned out.
I love your monkey grass.
Thanks, I am sending good thoughts your way.
