Although excessive sadness is a ‘springboard’ to depression and can condition some people’s thinking ability, the truth is that these (and others) negative feelings play a determining role in the sense of well-being and human balance, and can even be an important factor for happiness.

Sadness is beneficial because it improves memory, sadness reduces the ability to memorize unimportant information, mentally reinforcing meaningful memories. According to science, sadness also makes people have better judgments, not falling into false impressions.
Motivation also improves, as does communication, as sad people tend to argue more grounded and convincing.
Last but not least, science further suggests that sadness can increase the goodness of people, who become more just and sensitive.
